Congratulations! You must be overjoyed to finally have you stuff. I do hope everything came through the long trip unscathed. (If it was damaged, would we say it was 'scathed'?) Just reading about your trials with the Indian bureaucracy is enough to make me shudder and be very glad I never had to move to India.
Actually the only international move I have made was handled by the US Army, many years ago when Karl and I moved to Germany. It was a breeze - no problems going over. We didn't take any furniture, just personal belongings. Coming back was also fine, except for the car which was damaged in shipment. We were warned, however, that German movers would pack anything in the apartment, including garbage, so I watched them carefully. We had bottles of liquor on a kitchen counter and the movers hinted very clearly (even my scant German was enough to understand them) that they would do a better job if they each had a shot of whiskey. I let them have one drink, but made sure the bottles got packed right after that. Drunk packers were NOT who I wanted dealing with my things!
I love reading your blog. Maybe we all enjoy hearing about someone else's problems? You are staying remarkably calm despite all the frustration and even keeping your sense of humour. Most admirable traits.
